Wednesday Meeting 24/3/10
The Project Hope Activities Coordinator Maroof Rabba’ , gave a presentation on his role during the Second Intifada as an emergency medical technician. He showed footage from the first Israeli invasion of Nablus, as well as short films on the use of human shields by the Israeli Defense Forces in Balata Camp.
Mr. Rabba’ explained that medical personnel converted the central
mosque in the Old City into a field hospital that was ill-equipped to
deal with the large number or injuries and deaths caused by the
invasion. He recounted many personal stories related to the
difficulties of working during the Intifada.—helping women pregnant
women deliver in fields when ambulances were denied entrance into
Nablus; being fired upon by Israeli soldiers while trying to recover
injured persons; and delivering medicine to people under curfew.
He continued by giving a first-hand account of the events at Iraq
Burin on March 20, 2010, in which two teenage boys were killed. Mr.
Rabba’ was present as a medical responder. He explained that the
Israeli soldiers prevented the ambulance he was in to approach the
scene. Before he was allowed to reach the injured persons, he was
told by soldiers that no live bullets were used—a statement Mr. Rabba’
states is clearly false based on X-rays and witness accounts .
