Before You Begin

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Project Hope.

Before applying, we ask that all candidates please read the International Volunteer Application Pack at right. It will provide important insight into volunteering with Project Hope and in Palestine, and it will help you decide if Project Hope is a good fit for you.

If you have any questions, please read our FAQ to see if we’ve already answered them. If you have further questions, you can always email us at recruiter@projecthope.ps.

A Few Last Notes…

Age Requirement

Volunteers must be at least 21 years old when they start their volunteering. There are no exceptions, so please don’t ask for one to be made.

Experience Requirement

You must either have experience teaching your subject as a lead teacher or assistant, or have worked with groups of children and youth — preferably both of these.

Timing + Length of Stay

Volunteers are accepted all year round, except during Ramadan. In 2011 we will be closed to all volunteers from July 28th to 1st September.

There are two types of volunteers — short-term volunteers who volunteer for 1-2 months, and long-term volunteers who volunteer for 3 months. We no longer accept volunteers for shorter than one month except in exceptional circumstances. Volunteers wishing to stay for longer than 3 months may only do so under invitation from the staff in Nablus after completing their initial stage of volunteering. Those wishing to volunteer for longer than 3 months should have an alternative plan in case they are not invited to continue.

Accommodations + Cost

Volunteers stay in the Project Hope apartment, which includes single-sex shared bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, toilet and living space. There is a fee to cover the costs of accommodation that must be paid in advance, as well a contribution for the expenses incurred in hosting volunteers. Please see our Volunteer Contributions document (opens a new window), which explains the costs and rationale behind them in full.

Something to think about…

We are a small grassroots organisation, and we do not have time to hunt down volunteers. The responsibility is yours to remain in contact with us. We are looking for committed, skilled volunteers who are dedicated, responsible, and able to work independently as well as part of our team. We are here to help you throughout your volunteer experience with us, but you will be expected to be able to take care of yourself as well. Volunteering overseas, especially in a developing and conflict environment, is not a decision to be taken lightly, and should be carefully thought through prior to applying.
